Working on the front end, again. I ordered a chevy 26"x19" Aluminum Radiator from Speedway Motors. So that requires me to get to work on the front end. That radiator is much larger that the MR2 rad and even the larger than the Audi model I was using. |
Taking the front bumper off. There are 20 bolts that hold the front bumper on. |
You have to pop up the headlamps to get to some of the bolts
The hood locking latch and one horn |
The old radiator. Aluminum from an Audi. |
I cut out the lower chassis support. This holds the strut rod mounts. I then welded in a tube that will be connected to the chassis. More on that next week. |
Close up. I trimmed all of this down to the frame rail after taking these pictures.

This holds the strut bar for the front suspension. You adjust caster with the strut rod.
I guess the other image was not good enough |
This box is 2.5" thick and 19" tall. Perfect for test fitting the radiator. This is the position it will be mounted in.
The wonderboy. He helped me alot tonight. |
I also made a new upper srut bar. Combining a AE101 and a AW11 strut bar. Finally I have a triangulated bar. |
I need to clean up the welds. I kept blowing through the AE101 bar. It was much thinner than the AW11 bar. But once cleaned up it should look pretty good.
Here are the 1.5" aluminum coolant pipes I ordered. You can see the bar I welded in as well. |
Bolts welded in with large fender washers as backing plates.
Perfect fit over the RSm cross member |
These will fit nicely.
