Parts in the mail

Finally got the TimeSert kit today. I bought it used, but in awesome condition from a Cadillac owner. I believe I am the third owner of the kit. They retail for $400.

Some awesome Northstar rebuilding information is on the Fiero Message Board
I also found a great article written by Allen Cline, the designer of the Northstar engine -
Engine Basics: Detonation and Pre-Ignition

The square plate is part of the drill guide, drill bit, tap, and TimeSert insert. The bits at the top are the plate centering pin and the drill locating insert. Pretty cool setup. The drill is a stepped drill bit.

This is the lower control arm rubber suspension bushing from the Cadillac. Mine are old and tore up. I want a stronger material like Urethane. I have searched the interweb over and over looking for a company that made performance bushings. None. So I am making my own. Specs = 2 7/16" wide 1 1/4" thick 11/16" hole

I ordered a pint of Shore 94A liquid urethane (Part # 8644K18) from McMaster-Carr. Cost was $28 included shipping.
I have used the softer compounds to make engine mounts. This will be easy.

2.5" mailing tube is used as a form for the urethane.

I just mixed it up and poured it in. Tapped it a few times to move the air bubbles up. and let it sit.

I taped the bottom just in case the urethane leaked through. It did not. The caps that come on the end of the tube were taped in place to help support the cap in case it came loose.

After about 2 hours the urethane was setup. I cut the tube off level with the urethane. I'll let urethane setup for about 7 days before I cut it to shape for use on the lower rear trailing arms.

Here are the Raybestos semi-metallic brake pads for the Cadillac brakes that I am using on the rear. Porterfield does not make a pad for this car. Now that I have some stock pads I'll measure the pad thicknesses. then send Porterfield the old backing plates I have.

RPD623M
I will mod these stock pads a bit by putting some cuts in the pads. I'll use these for a while as Porterfields are not in the budget for a while
