This past week has not been a good one. One family member passed away and another is not doing so well. Both were avid automotive enthusiasts. Not much work was done this week. |
William D. Cooper Jr. Bill was my father in-law. An awesome man. We both led like lives, both served in the USAF, both stationed at Luke AFB, both of us loved working and souping up cars and and trucks. I met him in 1997, a few weeks after meeting my wife. He has helped me sort out a lot of problems I had in my life. He pointed me in the right direction many times, in life and in the automotive stuff. Bill, along with his brother Gary were one of the original East Coast Dune Buggy builders. He did alot in his life. He helped to build the Black Canyon Freeway in Arizona, and also drove trucks building I64 in central Virginia. I will miss him greatly, as will the rest of his family. My son Ian, will especially miss his pa-pa, as every Sunday they would watch racing and car shows, or spend the day riding the 4 wheeler or the lawn tractor. The day Bill passed away we were informed by Phil Hoeffer's daughter that he was not doing well. That "Uncle Phil" had been put in Hospital. We all knew that Phil was not doing well and would not live much longer due to having malignant pleural mesothelioma Phil was an "old school" hot rodder. Hanging out with the great Southern California hot rodders in the 40 and 50s. His stories of those days were wonderful to listen to. |

After the services, all the "Boys" went down to the Cooper Garage to do some work on Bill's last project. His 1953 Chevrolet Surbuban Hot Rot. From left to right - Will Cooper, Bill Strong and Marvin Cooper with Ian Strong sitting on the chassis rail. Mark Copper is taking the image. We installed the front Mustang II suspension and steering rack. Something Bill had been working at doing the last few months. He would have loved seeing this completed and his Grandson sitting on the car. I'll miss Bill in a huge way.... |
I finally picked up the exhaust manifold gaskets. |
Here is the gasket info. They are triple layer metal. |
So I got tired of waiting for the phone call from the NAPA man about what oil filter will work with my application. I went though the display case looking for a filter that had the same characteristics as the stock Fram PH3675 filter. I found one, the PH3506. |
I noticed that the filters had a number and a letter stamped on the base. The stock Northstar filter had a "2D" stamped. So I just looked for filters with 2D and found one. The same diameter, and one inch lower. |
I needed a shorter filter to work with the oil cooler adaptor. Without a shorter filter the stock filter will hang below the engine frame. Not a good place for the life blood of your engine. |
here is a test CV boot clamp. |
Someone from my message board wanted this part number. |
Aluminum tape that will be used to seal the firewalls. |
