Day 36 - 3/07/2004

Home

Another nice warm day.

I worked on the front suspension today. I gathered every ball joint I had, good or bad. I needed to figure out an inexpensive solution to hook up the steering rack to the hubs. After a few hours of mocking up different combinations I came across the perfect solution. I used a rear toe control ball joint and rod from a 1987 MR2. On the board I stated it was an 86, but in fact it is a 87 part. The rod was welded to the steering rack. It works perfect. 3.5 rotations of a standard MR2 steering wheel lock to lock.

All welded up.

I sliced the rod so I could get a better weld.

You can see the 4 cuts here

I ground down the strut mount as it is too thick for the 1986 struts

I like the looks of the hardtop strut bar much better!
