Day 30 - 2/15/2004

Home

Today was cold and windy. I hate wind and am really starting to hate the cold.

Our wheel costs have shot through the roof. Because of the bigger brakes I have to get larger wheels. Sucks... wife said no... so I need to get a pizza delivery job to get some extra cash...

1

1

Test fitting the AutoPower roll cage

2

2

Plenty of room. I was expecting the engine to hit the bar. I was also expecting there to not be enough room to make a panel to fit over the engine that would easily be removed to access the engine. But there will be plenty of room.

3

I have made some plates that will bolt to these plates and will use 1.5" tube to connect to the strut tower.

4

4

Same with that side

1

5

I still have a little room to make a box for the alternator.

2

6

I will be cutting off the side bar mount. The side bar will be repositioned to the footer. This will allow easier entry into the car and stiffen the chassis. It will be NHRA style.

7

Nice fit, but makes the sun visors useless. So I will need to make some different sun visors.

4

8

I pulled all of the asphalt off the firewall. I need to weld some sheel steel to this... so off came the insulation.

5

9

Took the time to install the Accel Plug wires. The 4 coils will be mounted to the pipe that will connect to the roll cage and the strut tower. That will give a nice straight run for the wires. Plus it should look pretty damn cool!

6

10

Much nicer looking than those stock GM wires!

7

11

Lots of wires

12

This is the subframe extension. This will be welded to the engine subframe.

13

All welded and ready to install on the chassis.

1

14

Connectors will be welded between the subframe and the tube. The tube is bolted to the chassis and the roll cage.

1

15

Triangulated pipes will be welded in there.

2

16

See the pipe between the jack stand and the subframe? Well that will support the side of the subframe.
