HAPPY NEW YEAR! Been busy. Buying parts. There was so much I needed with the re-do to make this car work right. I decided since I wanted to do this car right the second time that I was not going to skimp on the parts. So saving money for the parts has slowed things down a bit. Spent the week talking with Peter at APR Performance about rear wings. I need a 61" wide wing, dual element and aluminum. So he set me up with a custom wing today. I should have it early next week. It is 61" wide, V Spec type 2 spoiler; (bottom cord width 7.5", upper cord width 4.125"). We will build some cutom side plates from aluminum that will also act as the mount for the spoiler, no center mount. It will look mean as hell and actually work at keeping the ass end where it needs to sit. I ordered a ton of engine parts, like a new crank, rod bearings, main bearings and a bottom end gasket set. Cost a fortune for the gasket set. I have a top end gasket set I was bidding on on eBay, but my Internet went off line 5 minutes before the end, pissed me off big time. The whole top end gasket set is a few hundred. This went for something like $50. I hate HughesNet. Bad.

Kirkey Road Racing seat. Made from aluminum. |
My son sitting in the seat pretending to drive.
Davis, Craig water pump. 110 liter per minute. This should cool this engine quite well. |
It is a little guy. Very light as well. |
Kirkey seat mount cage. This welds up to the cage so I can mount the seat to it. |
Modified my pipe bender to bend the tube. It works really well not.
Welded up some water pipes. They will work. But I will redo this later. My first attempt at welding thin wall aluminum. It looked easier on the TV. |
Bent roll cage bars. These will be the NASCAR bars for the drivers door.
Looks like that when laid out. |
Engine side.
All the pistons laid out. Cleaned and matched with the rods and pins. They all weigh exactly 1200 grams. on the dot! |
The engine is all cleaned and ready to assemble. |
How I bent the brackets for the cooling pipes. |
Here is the exhaust. Still debating on how many pipes to use, two looks cool, but one is lighter and faster. |
Completed rear mount. |
I welded in these steel reinforcements to keep the bolts from compressing the sub-frame.
Cooling pipe test fitted. |
Me. But I know you are looking at my calendar from 1992. Oh such a good calendar.
My attempt at removing the windshield. I bought the kit the pros use. I am not a pro. Need to buy a new window now. |
Ground out all the rust and applied primer around the window frame. This will make it much easier to build the dash and finish welding the cage.
There was a ton of surface rust up here. That was the cause of my leak oh so many years ago. But the good thing is that it only leaked when it rained or I washed the window. |
A-piller. I am thinking of welding this to the roll cage. It would make the car stronger. BMW race cars do this. It must be good :)
