Day 118- 12/17/2006

Home

Moving cars around.

1

1

Saturday I swapped doors. I cut out all the locking mechanisms on my other doors. To make them SCCA legal I installed two 1989 Japanese spec doors from a Supercharged MR2. They have no door beams and are made from thinner steel.

2

2

Slight dent in one.

1

3

I left the inside door panel intact. If I need to lighten the car in the future I'll cut it out.

2

4

Passenger side door.

Before cutting the rear sheet metal that sits under the bumper.

View of the relief I put in the chassis rail for the strut last week.

2

12

Another view.

1

13

Cut lines. Inside lines are the strut. Outside the 1/2 cut 3" exhaust pipe.

2

14

Here it is to show you where it will go.

1

15

Measurement from chassis drain hole.

2

16

Cut and profiled.

1

17

Test fit of the 1/2 pipe.

2

18

Welded in.

1

19

Put the suspension on and pushed the car out of the car port.

2

20

That is my brake sitting on the grass. Did not want the car rolling down the hill into the lake. That would really suck.

1

21

More shots. We will use these shots to photoshop up some paint jobs.

2

22

Engine shot.

1

23

Engine pan and tranny pan is level with the chassis bottom. See the nut that is acting as a spacer on the rear mount? I'll make a spacer for the bolts later.

1

24

Looking up.

2

25

Long shot of the car.

1

26

Front brake.

2

27

See the intake to the radiator.

1

28

Made a dolly from 4x4s and some 350 pound wheels. Rolled the car out. It got stuck in a friggen gole the stupid dog dug. Ripped off the wheel. So I attached a tie down and moved it out of the way so I could move the Krylon into the garage.

2

29

Dumbass me forgot to take the fuel tank out. So the kids and I hooked up the Dodge and tipped the car onto its side. Remove the tank and then flipped it back over. No damage. The frame I made for the wide body held the car up and kept the door and fenders from bending. Surprised the hell out of me. I did end up breaking a mirror, but I have tons of those.

1

30

Here are the kids playing on the wood frame. Kate, Gavin and Ian. They did this for hours.

2

31

Rolled the Krylon into the shop. The shop is heated.

1

32

I see on web forums people talking about me not being able to get the power to the ground. On the left is the stock 185 60HR14 tire that the MK1 MR2 uses. On the right is the 23x9x15 Goodyear slick.

2

33

These things are awesome in the dry.

1

34

Close up reference for the size. I need toi get some more.

2

35

They are designed to fit 15x6.5-15x7 rims.

1

36

See how wide these guys are..

2

37

Fuel tank. Inside is a custom fuel gauge and a big Walbro fuel pump.
