Day 112- 10/15/2006

Home

One of my moderators from the MR2OC drive down from DC this weekend. He had a broken B-pipe on the exhaust of his 1994 MR2. I welded up a piece of pipe. Sounded much better after that. He helped me bring up the dead V8 from the shop. I stripped it down as I am going to use this block as the dummy to build the mounts and stuff. Easier to move around an empty Northstar than a full one.

Here are the two good heads. Prepped ready to install when we get the rest of the car sorted.

2

2

Good Northstar crank. Debating on if I should have the crank wheel welded, then re-cut using the TEC3 style wheel.

The standard TEC crank sensor wheel concerns me as it is not ballanced. Or I can just have the stock wheel removed and the crank reballanced with the TEC3 wheel... decissions

3

Fully assembled empty engine. Complete with one cracked cylinder liner and block.

The good pistons will be used later to make a high compression 5.0 liter Cadillac 16v aluminum V8 (ex-4.9L)

2

4

Played around with different things to remove the air from the radiator. I have decided to try this. Or, I may install a Chevy style scoop to vent the air at the base of the window. That will be much more efficiant than putting a big hole in the hood. I like rice, but putting a bit of manhood on this car will be fun. That is it! I'll call it the hood style - "Man Hood".

1

5

I would not do this with a stock steel hood. If I hit a tree it would make me about a foot, or a head shorter!

2

6

Reduces the impact that the window plays in the air flow. Sorta like the SST / Concord.

1

7

I think that would flow plenty of air.

2

8

60mm.

1

9

Good head. Nothing is better.

2

10

Not good head. Some how water got on the inside of the bubble wrap and corroaded the head face. Gotta do a re-do on the surface.

1

11

another view of the empty engine. I sat and stared at the engine for a while to figure out in my head how I would make the engine mounts. I think I have it fingered out.

2

12

My new engine is actually a 1999 block. No VIN on the block. So I suspect it is a warranty replacement. It does have this on it...

12559315 REV001

wonder what that means? Pan & head stamp states it was made in Jan99

1

13

Another view of the old broken engine. This is the side that will be on the passenger firewall side. The front of the engine

2

14

Installed the once piece hood and scoop. Gonna have to replace the scoop as the workmanship sucks.

1

15

Plumley spoiler. These actually work very well on the AW11.

2

16

I have an idea on a super light rear bumper that is half the depth as the stock one.And will weigh nothing.

1

17

Gonna redo that scoop with carbon fibre sheet. Plus make the hole much bigger. I am also debating on making the whole hood from carbon fibre honeycomb sheet.
