Day 11 - 1/1/2004

Happy New Year!

Well the world did not blow up. This is good. The goal today was to get the passenger side fender on, the fuel tank in, and the some other odds & ends stuff done. But as I went to go lift the rear of the car to install the fuel tank I realized I had not finished the motor mounts. Doh! So the day was spent doing and redoing the drivers side mount.

So does the second post of this thread seem like he is jealous? Or maybe one of those kids that hates getting his ass handed to him by a car older than he is? I just find it funny. The thread at New Celica.something - Oh, he owns a Mitsubishi. funny

1

Here is a fuel tank I prepared earlier.

2

2

Oops. Forgot the engine mounts. So I made some chassis mounts.

3

Mangled bumper But I did not like the setup. So i trashed those and started the whole mount again. I could not fit the intake in with these mounts. So back to the machine shop.

4

4

Here is the machine shop. A 14" cut off saw and a 4 1/2" angle grinder. A MIG welder and a hammer.

5

5

So I remounted the mount.

6

6

My welds are getting much better

7

7

Perfect

8

Add some paint

9

Test fitting. Now I have room for the intake.

10

Added some reinforcement

11

Done. ready for cleanup and some Krylon

12

Yes it is supposed to be bent like that

13

Mounts installed and holding the engine up in the air!

14

Bent to hell too. Big as hell compared to the 4A-GE

1

15

The pan is even with the bottom of the chassis

More reference images

17

The intake fits

4

18

Here is the mount. The uprights are just tacked in and the engine held in with some threaded rod. Don't worry. This is just there until I drop the engine and do some final welds and reinforce this area.

5

19

All leveled out.

6

20

Perfect fit.

7

21

Got the gas tank in as the sun set

22

The oil pan

23

Draining the oil will require lifting the front of the car.

24

Looking up at the rear head

25

Lots of room for a 3" exhaust system

26

Loads of room here
