Day 10 - 12/31/2003

Home

I was going to try and get some wiring done today but decided to work on the body panels. I can't start the darn thing without a radiator. So I'll have to sort out the front bumper before I put a radiator in there.

1

1

Here is the crunched fender.

Crunched light pod

3

Mangled bumper

Bent door

UPS lady doing her daily delivery.

6

6

My chassis and suspension book. Too bad I already own the damn thing! I hate it when I do that! It will be up for sale later today.

7

7

Popped up the headlight and began undooing the 4 backing bolts and nuts. Then removed the headlight and bezel, then removed the bolt holding the bottom bracket in.

8

The pull out the old and throw it to the ground

9

One empty hole where the light used to fit. It actually is notbent up in there like the RS-GTR MK1.5 was.

10

I removed the side skirt and found 5 pounds of mud inside.

11

I'll have to take off the rear triangle also. I bet one of the previous owners lived on a dirt road.

12

I had to beat on the wheel to break it free from the hub. I tried kicking it and that did not work, so I got a 5 pound sledge hammer. That removed it perfectly.

13

Here is the fender removed

14

Bent to hell too.

1

15

This will make removing the door much easier. Just pop the pin holding the opening limiter, close the door, and remove the 4 bolts on the hinges.

2

16

And here it is. If you are a 150 pound weakling you may want to get a friend help to move the heavy door.

17

Naked MR2

4

18

Applied some Krylon primer to where the hinges went, there was some bare metal there.

5

19

I removed the power window stuff from the Silver Rust Bucket donor door.

6

20

Close up of the power window winder upper.

7

21

Here is the gutted door that will be used on the V8 MR2.

22

The manual window gear about to be pulled out. I noticed that at one time this door was crashed into. Inside there are a lot of welds where they were used to pull the door out.

23

The new door installed. The door is a April 1985 door. It bolted right on to the 1987 chassis.

24

I used some good hinges off the silver rust bucket. The V8 MR2 hinges were worn out and allowed the door to drop down when opened.

25

It sorta lines up, I have to work on the alignments once I get the car completed and ready for paint.

26

Here is the J-Spec hood with the PapaL hood vent. I am not done with the vent, I just needed to actually fit it to a car to make certain it is going flow correctly. And it does. So now I just need to glass the edges and clean up the cuts.

27

Front view.

28

Side view.

1

29

The idea is to remove the high pressure area under the hood. This vent works without the need to cut into the trunk and does not decrease your front trunk space like others. This whole mod would cost less than $10 excluding paint.

2

30

Now I just need to install the new fender.

31

And here it is. straight and clean. It just needs sanding. It has a layer of Krylon Special Gray on it.

4 32

I also installed the master cylinder I collected from a 1987 MR2 at the junk yard a few months ago.

5

33

I found one of the Krylon Special lights. Perfect fit!

6

34

I just need to find a new plastic surround. I have plenty of these.

7

35

I think you can still see some of the soot from the Boostmongers exhaust on there.

36

So I have been getting lots of emails asking how far back I can have the seat. So I installed a good MR2 seat. I am 5'-11" and 225 pounds. I like the seat back a bit to give me more of a straight arm feel on the wheel. So this is where the seat sits. Plenty of room.

37

I installed a rear carpet with all of it's insulation. Still plenty of room. I got to thinking that I should install some 1/4" steel plate behind my back in case the trans decides to let loose. I would not want pieces of the trans to come flying though my back. That would suck.

1

38

I'll rebild this with my new TwosRus window gears and install it into the purple MR2.

2

39

All done, except with the bumper

40

Looking much better.

4 41

The silver rust bucket is starting to get much lighter. I have a few more things to remove from this car, then off to the crusher she will go.

5

42

I like that vent. Tomorrow I'll install the new bumper, fix the right side fender, install the fan and side vent, and install the new fuel tank with the Walbro Fuel pump.
