Street racing is the use of motor vehicles on public highways or roads at excessive speeds for the entertainment of the drivers and the spectators who gather to watch this spectacle. It is a dangerous sport and is illegal in all fifty states of the United States. Many young people enjoy this sport and is part of the youth culture of America but also other countries worldwide. The parts can be very expensive but most of the work on the cars is done by the owners of the cars themselves or their friends.  Racing takes places usually at night, and in locations where the police cannot see.  There are sometimes postings on social media to let people know where to go watch the street racing.  Several notable accidents have taken place in street racing including some incidents where people have been killed or injured.
